GUEST EXPECTATIONS & EXPERIENCES
What essentials do guests expect?
Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash and Soap are the basic minimum.
Do I need to offer extras to get better reviews?
Unexpected additional amenities will always make a guest feel valued with the perception that the host has gone above and beyond what is required. However, if no extra amenities are invested in, then using a premium brand that is well curated and coordinated, with a feel-good scent, softness and boutique feel, is repeatedly highlighted will go a long way. The goal is to have the basics feel nicer than expected and thoughtfully presented.
What are the most mentioned essentials?
Soap and body wash are frequently called out when they smell good and feel gentle and better than the generic budgeted options.
What are the extra essentials that bring positive reviews and can push ratings from 4 star to 5 star?
Studies reveal that the 2 most mentioned extra amenities that bring better reviews are Body lotion and Cotton pads in vanity kits.
Body lotion is a most noted extra especially when hydrating and when provided in a branded bottle lotion signifying that the host thought of everything.
Cotton pads (Vanity Kits) bring bonuses for review but an actual boon to the host. For hosts, cotton vanity pads are a small amenity that create a big impact; not only does the extra wow factor provide better reviews helping you stand out in competitive markets, but they help save costs. Cotton pads/ buds provide a makeup removing solution that significantly reduces mascara, foundation and lipstick stains from towels, pillowcases and linens. A small investment in cotton pads/ buds saves on textile replacement costs extending your linens’ lifetime.
COST & BUDGET
Can I buy these toiletries in bulk?
Yes refillable items can be purchased in bulk. Plus, our loyalty program rewards a 20% discount, once a minimum spend of £500 has been reached. You will qualify as a VIP Pineapple member and have further discounts throughout the present and following year. Furthermore, we are always willing to negotiate orders that achieve a certain ceiling, discuss bespoke options and explore product development ideas with you.
Will amenities pay off in higher ratings or more bookings?
Yes toiletries and other essential amenities are expected. Lacking basic ones will drop your ratings just as much as having certain amenities will elevate them. ROI ( Return on Investment) is a major strategy in choosing the right amenities.
Does quality of amenity effect unseen running costs?
Yes. There are certain tricks such as having lightweight (good quality) textiles that will reduce washing and turn around costs. If you wash at home, you can fit more in your washer and if you use industrial cleaners, you will be charged by weight. So, weight does make a difference. (Hence, our choice or absorbable yet light pieces.)
And as discussed above providing cotton vanity kits will help prevent makeup stains on your linens and towels reducing replacement costs.
SAFETY & REGULATIONS
Are ingredients compliant with local regulations?
Every cosmetic product should have a RP (responsible person). There should be one for the UK and one for the EU if sold in both territories. A RP in cosmetics is legally accountable for ensuring products placed on the market are safe for human use and comply with all relevant regulations in the UK and EU Cosmetic Regulations 1223/2009. Products for sale in the UK should be registered in the SCPN portal and those sold in the EU registered in the CPNP portal (EU cosmetics products notification portal.)
What is the responsibility of a RP (Responsible Person)?
- Compiles and maintains a Product Information File (PIF) and Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) for at least 10 years after the last batch is marketed.
- Ensures product labeling and claims are legal and accurate and coordinates product notification to authorities where required.
- Acts as a point of contact for regulators and must promptly report to authorities any serious or undesirable effect or risks associated with a cosmetic product.
Who can be a RP (Responsible Person)?
- The manufacturer, if based in market region
- The importer (for products produced outside the region)
- A third-party service provider, with formal written responsibility.
What are the regulations concerning single use disposable toiletries?
- Under the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR), single use cosmetic, hygiene and toiletries products in hotels will be banned starting Jan. 1, 2030.
- The UK has no restrictions with single use disposable bottles if they comply with general packaging and waste rules.
Do beauty products need to be locked to prevent tampering or theft?
It is always advisable to lock away beauty products not only from tampering, but from theft. Also stocking in a safe place allows for accountability and quick turnaround.
ECO FRIENDLINESS & SUSTAINABILITY
Can some plastics be more ecofriendly than other plastics?
Our 50 ML bottles are made not only from 35% recycled plastics but from Ocean Prevented plastics™. Not only are the plastics recycled but the health of the oceans is being factored in.
What other materials have been used for sustainability?
We are experimenting with our laundry bags made from wood pulp. Our first production batch saved an impressive 603,960 litres of water compared to using an organic cotton version.
Do clients search for sustainable solutions?
Yes, some clients take notice.
What are the pros and cons of single use bottles compared to refillable dispensers?
- Guests view single-use bottles as more hygienic and personal, associating them with luxury.
- Staff can replace the bottles quicker with less mess.
- However, these items generate significant plastic waste as well as product waste once opened and not used.
- Storage needed to house the multiple bottles
- Refillable dispensers drastically reduce plastic waste.
- They can save cost overtime if bought in bulk and reduce frequency of restocking.
- Theft of the large bottles can be costly and attaching to walls is not practical and unsightly.
- Hygiene is the main concern as pumps will need to be changed with time if they can’t be sterilized.
